An experience called Symbi...

Welcome To Symbi !

This blog is dedicated to the two years of my life in Symbi, in unarguably one of the most beautiful campuses on earth. The experiences, the journey, the learning’s and the unlearning.

In another week it will be all over, this place when I first came down two years ago was the most beautiful of campuses where dreams are woven, friends are made and expectations from them by default, and primarily we are here to LEARN-both academics and importantly the nitty grit ties of a journey called life. But strangely at the end of two years, I am pretty much convinced that this place has mind of its own. Like the heroine in those cheap Ramsay brother’s horror movies, who is the beautiful eye candy in the day and the ugly looking, heavily make up laden devil by the night, this place for me is that-with a dual persona. As they say a picture speaks a thousand words (thanks and due credit to the original photographer to capture it) this picture of the main gate encapsulates my point very beautifully, the main gate which opens out to the village of “knowledge” - brimming with life and loads of positive energy in the daylight, suddenly gets this mystical, haunted quality like it’s a snapshot taken out of a horror movie’s scene once its night.
From no where an entrance to the "Knowledge Village"-Credit to original photographer
Symbi at night..

Like the yin and yang, everything here is divided here,-SIBM/MC-SITM, Marketing-Systems, X committee-Y committee, North Indian-South Indian, X Group-Y Group .As pleasing it is at the surface, the more messier and divided it is deep down inside. No wonder the people too start imbibing from the place and end up like it. I am not sure if it’s the place that defines the people or the people that define the place, probably happens both ways.
Just like all dreams woven here do not turn into reality, not all friends made stick around till the end, it usually happens that they don’t meet your expectations(I know we all hate that word…don’t we? ) and most importantly- not necessarily you end up learning in this place, for me personally this place was more about unlearning than learning. I guess, for learning new things you will have to unlearn all the previous experiences and knowledge. This place has made me wiser in many respects, but at the same time made me look equally dumb many a times making me constantly realise that life is an one unending quest for learning, I personally ended up learning stuff from people whom I personally never felt I could take anything from considering their initial interactions with me (no wonder people carry a bad first impression of me as a snobby guy with an attitude).

What will I miss from this place?

I’ll surely miss the craziness of the place lots of crazy things being done these two years(lets not get into the finer details :D), ill miss Pune city-surely in my list of places where I want to settle down, ill miss the food from here-haven’t seen a place which is so diverse in terms of food from south Indian to continental you get it all, ill miss those 40 mins bus rides from the shutter island to the city where all you did was thinking and introspect, the beautiful sunset and realising the fact that something so spectacularly beautiful is so often missed by us and is taken for granted, ill miss people who have made me explore my varied facets-from the  16 yr old teenager in me who is busy “making a database” to the completely opposite 35 yr old mature guy in me to whom people look up to when it comes for advice and last but not the least- I will probably miss raising hands every time Dr.Mazumdar (Our founder) asks the audience in front of a distinguished guest on how many students are non Maharashtrians in the audience :D

I thank you everyone, contrary to what you guys think I have learned something from each one of you.The experience called SITM shall be cherished for all the good and the bad reasons.
Well I am not creating a legacy of ending blog posts with Jim Morisson’s poetry, but I am so compelled to do so right now because he so beautifully encapsulates what majority of us feel in the fag end of this journey.

So here it goes….

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange

Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

  5. Respect Mr Nambiar...I don't think anything can better capture the plethora of emotions going through each of us at this very moment as we step out of the hostel which was home for the past 2 years and into the corporate world...The sad part is that reading this blog lead me into thinking how much more I could have done in these 2 years but then turning back time is something which no mortal can ever achieve..
